Choosing the right entertainment can make a huge difference to the atmosphere of your wedding day. Whether you’re considering a live band, DJ or a combination of both, here are three of the most important questions we are regularly asked.

1. What type of entertainment is right for your wedding?

There is no single answer because every wedding is different. The best choice will depend on your venue, number and age range of your guests, musical tastes and, most importantly, the atmosphere YOU want to create.

A great live wedding band can bring energy and excitement to the evening and encourage guests onto the dance floor. An experienced wedding DJ can offer an enormous variety of music and adapt quickly to different generations and musical tastes.

Many couples choose the best of both worlds. A live band with a DJ to keep the party going between sets and later in the evening.

Our advice is simple: don’t just choose an act, concentrate on the atmosphere you want to create. 

2. How much should we budget for when booking our wedding day entertainment?

Wedding entertainment prices can vary considerably depending on the type of act, number of performers, location, performance times and the date of your wedding.

Rather than simply looking for the cheapest option, consider what is included in that price. Does the band or DJ provide their own professional sound and lighting equipment? How long will they perform? Will music be provided between live sets? Are travel costs included? Do they have appropriate insurance and professional-quality equipment?

Your entertainers or your entertainment provider will be responsible for several hours of your wedding day. They can be one of the main things your guests will remember most about your wedding day. Good wedding entertainment should therefore be viewed as a very important part of your wedding experience rather than simply another item on the budget.

3. How far in advance should we book our wedding band or DJ?

As soon as you have confirmed your wedding date and venue, it’s worth starting your entertainment search.

In Scotland we have many popular and  professional wedding bands and DJs. However they can be booked anything up to three years ahead, particularly for Saturdays during the summer months! Leaving it until later doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t find great entertainment, but your choice will almost certainly be more limited.

Before booking, always ask to see or hear the act perform LIVE at a band showcase event or at a suitable venue. Check exactly what is included in their fee and make sure you receive written confirmation of the booking arrangements.

Most importantly, choose entertainers or entertainment providers you have trust in. You must feel confident that they understand your wedding, and what you hope to achieve. The right entertainers don’t simply play music – they help to create the atmosphere that add’s to your celebration. They play a big part in the memories you and your guests take home from your wedding day adventure!

We always recommend that whenever possible you should NEVER book a band for a wedding or major event without seeing them play LIVE! However this is not always possible as funnily enough, wedding entertainers are normally playing at someone’s wedding! For this reason we regularly host our wedding band showcase events.
